Dr. Evelyn Brown is the director of extension research and development for NC State Industry Expansion Solutions (IES). She leads research and development efforts and works to establish relationships with faculty whose research expertise can be applied to solve problems for North Carolina manufacturers. Evelyn is part of the Evaluation Services team at IES that provides formative and summative assessments for statewide projects and federally funded grants.

Evelyn’s role also includes a focus on creating opportunities for faculty and students to work on grants in partnership with IES. She is the Principal Investigator on an NSF-funded grant that examines education and training at the convergence of robotics/automation and cybersecurity.  This grant project includes community colleges and MEPs from seven different states, two Manufacturing Institutes, and others.

Evelyn comes to IES after 18 years of teaching at the university level. She has a BS in mathematics, an MS in operations research (from NC State), and a PhD in systems engineering. She currently serves on the East Carolina University Department of Engineering advisory board and has volunteered as an ABET evaluator since 2011.

In her free time, Evelyn enjoys travel, tennis, college baseball, and taking care of her 17-year-old beagle.
