SUMMARY:Smart Sensors…Your Smart Manufacturing Journey Starts Here!
DESCRIPTION:Who Should Attend\nElectrical Engineers\, Process Engineers and Technicians.\n  \nREGISTER TO ATTEND\n \nVehicles\, appliances and even toys now leverage seamless internet connectivity and take advantage of many innovative sensing technologies that were once considered too expensive to add to standard product configurations or excessive… “Who needs that anyway?”. Robber sensing technologies are credited with real-time “driver-assist” decision-making in today’s automobiles. That’s above and beyond the hundreds already controlling and optimizing the vehicle’s efficiency and the occupants’ comfort. While components of industrial control systems for many years\, sensors were considered part of the “black box” and little attention was paid to their stand-alone usefulness.  \n \nToday\, data is king and reliance on sensors and their elevation out/away from the black box has taken on its own imperative.  Devices are “smarter\,” can connect to the internet\, often wirelessly and are becoming less expensive and easier to integrate. \n \nCome join our resident expert for an introduction to commercial\, off-the-shelf (COTS) sensing technologies that can help you unearth and share essential production data or assist you in becoming your own integrator-of-things without the integrator price tag! \n  \nKey Takeaways:\n\nLearn the difference between a switch and a “smart switch”\nDiscover where some standard smart sensors are used in manufacturing\nSee how easy it can be to add smart sensors to legacy equipment/systems\n\n  \nPresenter\nJason Low\nSenior Manufacturing Engineering Specialist\, NC State University Industry Extension Services\nEmail: jason_low@ncsu.edu | Phone: 919.515.1424\n \nJason assists clients with automation strategies and understands how Industry 4.0 technologies can be adopted and leveraged as part of their lean trajectory\, OEE improvement\, and an increasingly positive bottom line.  \n \nJason comes to IES with 25 years of teaching and automation experience in the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at NC State University (NCSU). Jason holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BSEET) from the University of Maine and a Master of Industrial Engineering (MIE) from NC State University.\n  \nREGISTER TO ATTEND

Now\, we are deploying these new capabilities to help companies like yours.  \n \nAligned with our mission to help revitalize the domestic textile industry through the integration of advanced technologies and advanced manufacturing processes\, we launched the first round of the Product Accelerator for Advanced Functional Fabrics (PAFF) program last November. PAFF is a unique program in which companies are given access to AFFOA’s expertise and equipment\, at no cost\, to close the gaps in their product or process developments and ultimately shorten the time to market.\n \nWe are accepting applications from companies with a product near commercialization or a process with a targeted improvement need that can be completed over 12-24 months. If selected\, the awardees will be given access to AFFOA’s specialized capabilities and expertise at no direct cost.\n \nThe first PAFF program included two awardees\, Loomia\, and Z-Polymers\, who are both working towards commercializing novel fiber and advanced fabric technologies with dual-use application potential. Loomia utilized the PAFF program collaboration to focus on their 12V Loomia Electronic Layer heating technology that can be used for DoD uniforms\, medical devices\, and automotive interiors. Z-Polymers is leveraging the PAFF program to build highly efficient membranes for fuel cell and electrolyzers applications\, utilizing their ultra-fine diameter Tullomer™ fibers.  \n \nWe are nearly complete with a PAFF 2.0 Guidebook containing all the details\, the deadlines\, and how to apply. In the meantime\, please reference the PAFF 1.0 guidebook to learn more about the program: affoa.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/AFFOA_PAFF_Guidebook1_5.pdf   \n \nPlease note that you do not have to be an AFFOA Member to submit a proposal for the PAFF program. However\, all selected awardees must either join or be a member in good standing to proceed.\n  \n\nREGISTER TO ATTEND

SUMMARY:Ergonomics for Engineers
DESCRIPTION:About Ergonomics Training for Engineers\nThis comprehensive course covers the key elements of the appropriate design of products and workspaces for the human user. Engineers armed with a deep understanding of ergonomics are better equipped to create products that not only function more efficiently but also enhance the user experience. At the conclusion of this course\, participants will have a more holistic grasp on all the considerations required to produce quality designs while also learning how to increase efficiency\, reduce injuries\, and improve overall performance. We will emphasize the principles of human-centered design\, placing the user at the core of the engineering process. A significant portion of the course will be dedicated to anthropometric design\, where we examine the dimensions and physical capabilities of the human body. From office spaces to manufacturing plants\, we will discuss how the physical environment impacts human performance and well-being\, and how engineers can shape these spaces for optimal results.\n  \nREGISTER TO ATTEND\n \nThis course mixes interactive lecture and hands-on exercises to allow all participants to learn and apply techniques.\n  \nObjectives\nAfter attending this course\, participants will be able to: \n\n\nUnderstand the principles of human-centered design and its applications in engineering.\nPossess the skills to apply anthropometric data in designing products that cater to a diverse user base.\nRecognize the significance of environmental factors in shaping ergonomic solutions.\nAnalyze and critique existing designs from an ergonomic perspective.\n\n\n  \nDetails\n\n\nWorkshop is offered in-person\, at your company site\, or virtually.\nTraining Fee: $1950/$1650 for members (if you have 5 or more registrants contact us for pricing information)\nRoyalty fee for customized design checklists and resource guides for each individual are included in the cost\n2.0 Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) available at registration through NC State University\nLunch is provided for Center hosted In-Person offerings
