Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) is an annual national event, coordinated by The National Association of Manufacturers and The Manufacturing Institute, on the first Friday of Manufacturing Month – October. It’s a day designated to highlight manufacturing careers and their impact on our lives.
On Manufacturing Day 2022, Central Carolina Community College (CCCC) opened the doors of its newly established E. Eugene Moore Manufacturing and Biotech Solutions Center for an interactive event. Manufacturers and students participated in education and networking designed to spread the good news.
In this episode of Clocking In, Phil Mintz sits down with the president of Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, North Carolina, Dr. Lisa Chapman. Dr. Chapman has been in the North Carolina Community College System for over 30 years, coming home to CCCC in April 2019.
She began her career as a biologist at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, but after a few years moved into formal teaching and learning, spending several years at CCCC. Her tenure at the college included serving as a biology instructor, math and sciences department chair, academic dean, and Executive Vice President for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer overseeing instruction as well as recruiting and academic learning support services. Chapman left CCCC in 2014 to serve as the Sr. Vice President/Chief Academic Officer of the North Carolina Community College System, a position she held for 5 years before returning to Central Carolina as president.
In addition to her full-time responsibilities, Chapman also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Practice at North Carolina State University Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research and the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development in the College of Education.
Phil Mintz and Dr. Chapman discuss Dr. Chapman’s background, the college’s plans to support workforce development in the world-class facility through education and hands-on training, the recently purchased addition of CCCC, the E. Eugene Moore Manufacturing and Biotech Solutions Center and more.

Phil Mintz
Phil Mintz is the executive director of NC State Industry Expansion Solutions (IES) and director of the North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP). At NCMEP, Phil drives outreach to NC manufacturers, builds relationships with federal and state leaders and coordinates efforts to drive profitable manufacturing growth in the state. He also leads the broader IES Extension Operations outreach unit of regional managers, technical specialists and business development leaders providing business engagement, assessment and improvement tools. This includes statewide peer networks, ISO 9000 quality management systems, Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing, environmental services, and health and safety solutions.
