Seegars Fence Company: Changing the World One Linear Foot at a Time

Seegars Fence Company

For more than seven decades, Seegars Fence Company has been building more than fences across the Carolinas. Founded in 1949 in Goldsboro, North Carolina, the family-owned manufacturer and installer has grown into a regional leader with multiple branches serving North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. Now in its third generation of family leadership, the company remains grounded in the same values that shaped its early years—hard work, integrity, and a deep commitment to the communities it serves.

That commitment is why Seegars Fence Company was honored with the State Manufacturing Leadership Award for Community Outreach, recognizing North Carolina manufacturers with fewer than 500 employees that demonstrate measurable impact through meaningful community engagement.

A Mission Measured in Linear Feet

Seegars Fence Company
At Seegars Fence Company, the company’s mission is simple yet powerful: “Change the world one linear foot at a time.”

Fences are measured in linear feet, but for the Seegars team, each one represents something more—an opportunity to make a positive impact on employees, customers, and the communities where they live and work.

“We want every foot of fence we build to have a positive impact on everything around us,” said Ben Seegars, president of Seegars Fence Company and a third-generation leader in the family business. “That starts with our team members and customers, and it extends into the communities we serve.”

Headquartered in Goldsboro, the company’s central manufacturing facility serves as the hub for its operations. Materials are brought into the facility, where teams manufacture gates, fabricate specialized components, and create proprietary fence systems before shipping them to branches throughout the region for installation.

But some of the most meaningful work happens outside the company’s normal production schedule.

The Helping Hands Initiative

Five years ago, Seegars formalized its community outreach efforts through the Helping Hands Project, an initiative that transforms the company’s mission into tangible action.

Each year, the team selects a nonprofit organization, ministry, or community group in need of a fence—often for safety, security, or accessibility. Then employees from across the organization step away from their usual roles and work together to build it.

Office staff, managers, and production team members all participate.

“Everyone goes out to the job site,” said Seegars. “We have a safety briefing, we talk about the goals for the day, and then we get to work.”

For many employees, it’s a rare opportunity to experience firsthand how the products they manufacture are used in the field. At the same time, the project strengthens teamwork and reinforces the company’s culture of service.

Midday, the team typically gathers for a shared lunch while the recipient organization speaks about its mission and how the fence will support its work in the community.

“These aren’t just fence installations,” Seegars explained. “They’re opportunities to strengthen communities, restore safety, and serve others.”

A Program with Growing Impact

What began as a single project at the Goldsboro headquarters has grown into a model embraced across the company’s branch network. Several installation locations have launched their own Helping Hands projects, donating time, labor, and materials to support neighbors and community organizations.

One branch recently completed a project for a local veteran who needed fencing for his property—an example of how the initiative is spreading across the company’s markets.

Employees say the experience is both meaningful and motivating.

“Seeing the people receiving the fence and understanding how much it helps them is really something to be proud of,” said Chanda Best, Seegars Fence Company’s safety manager. “Knowing you’re touching lives in the community makes the work even more rewarding.”

Strengthening Communities While Strengthening Culture

Seegars Fence Company
With more than 325 employees across the Carolinas and Georgia, Seegars Fence Company continues to grow while maintaining the family-driven culture that has defined it for generations.

The company’s commitment to its people includes investments in employee training, team events, and workplace initiatives that foster connection and pride in the organization’s mission.

That culture extends naturally into the company’s community engagement efforts. By bringing employees together for service projects, Seegars reinforces the idea that manufacturing success is measured not only by productivity and growth, but also by the positive difference a company can make in people’s lives.

A Legacy of Service

Seegars Fence Company
Now in its 77th year, Seegars Fence Company continues to expand its reach while remaining grounded in the values established by founder Neal Seegars in 1949. Today, the business is led by members of the third generation of the Seegars family, continuing a legacy of craftsmanship, integrity, and service.

As the company grows—recently opening their thirteenth branch in Augusta, Georgia—its mission remains unchanged.

“Helping Hands is a tangible way we bring our mission to life,” said Seegars. “It reminds our team why we do what we do.”

For Seegars Fence Company, every project—whether serving a customer or supporting a community—represents another opportunity to live out that mission.
