The Sustainable Manufacturing Award criteria is based on outstanding sustainable practices, measurable environmental or energy savings related to production processes, product design or product life cycle.
Fibertex Personal Care’s manufacturing print facility in Asheboro, North Carolina, was selected for the 2025 North Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP) Sustainability Manufacturing Leadership Award. The NCMEP Sustainable Manufacturing Leadership Award is awarded to the manufacturer exemplifying outstanding sustainable practices and measurable environmental or energy savings related to production processes, product design, or product life cycles.
The Fibertex Personal Care Group is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of nonwovens and printed nonwovens for the hygiene industry, supplying key components for baby diapers, sanitary napkins and adult incontinence care products. Recently having celebrated its 5th anniversary, the company’s site in Asheboro is relatively new in the county, and is busy producing printed nonwovens to global brand owners through its Innowo Print-brand. Among others, these brand owners have increased their demand for sustainable product solutions.
“We have always been committed to reducing the environmental impact of our operations. As global challenges now call for action, we acknowledge that sustainability is here to stay,” Group Print Director, Carsten Pedersen, says.
Specific examples of Fibertex Personal Care’s commitment to sustainability best practice include:
- Implemented a distillery to recycle and reuse our process solvents
- Improved segregation of the material waste to allow for better recyclability
- Continued training and production improvements, and reduced production waste
- Use KPI-based tracking of energy consumption related to production volume
- Implemented the use of OEKO-TEX-certified ink
- Implemented digital printing for product design to reduce development time and resources
Last year, the company received the silver sustainability ranking from EcoVadis, which is a global collaborative platform and independent rating agency that evaluates and ranks companies’ sustainability performance.
“Whether we are facing a new challenge or repeating a known procedure, we are determined to be driven by this fundamental way of thinking and behaving,” Quality Manager, Kumar Letchumanan, explains.
The corporate mindset “Sustainable is Possible” exemplifies the company’s prioritization of sustainability practices and reflects a promise to enable its customers to produce more sustainable solutions.
“Combined with our printing competencies and long history of being a responsible company, we hold a strong position in our industry,” Carsten Pedersen says, and continues, “I am proud of our people in Asheboro and how we manage to develop this position. We are all proud of the NCMEP Sustainable Manufacturing Award.”
