Toyota will invest $1 billion and create 1,725 jobs in the first of what may be a two-phase project at the site. The second phase, if built, would bring a total investment of $3.4 billion and 3,875 jobs.
Nearly four years removed from its near-miss with a ToyotaMazda manufacturing plant, the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite has landed its automotive manufacturer. Rather than a vehicle assembly facility, though, the 1,825-acre site just south of the Guilford-Randolph county line may well be the epicenter of the future of Toyota’s manufacturing—the production of lithium-ion batteries for its hybrid and battery-electric vehicles.
